Via, TheDodo: “no one can say for certain how this gentle greyhound came to be stray before she was found clinging to life on the streets with an injured leg. But after being saved from that painful ordeal, it soon became clear to her rescuers just who she’d been living for.”
Suspected to have been dumped by hunters, a Greyhound with a broken leg was in terrible condition until psychologist Lianne Powell transported the stray to a nearby veterinarian. Upon inspection, Powell and Spanish veterinarian Ellen Sobry noticed that she was lactating, which meant puppies were likely nearby.
As soon as the dog’s leg was set and a cast was put on, the veterinarian put a leash on the dog and led her outside. Sobry and Powell had only been acquainted with the Greyhound for only an hour, which is why both were surprised when the dog didn’t hesitate before taking them to a litter of ten puppies.
“We put a collar and long lead on her… Then we just followed her… She knew where she was going,” veterinarian Ellen Sobry told The Daily Mail.
“Limping and at times dragging her cast, she led us along the backstreets and main roads over the fields and along muddy tracks… There in the back were 10 beautiful, fat little healthy puppies,” Powell said.
The innate trust blew Sobry away. She commented:
“It was incredible – I couldn’t believe what I saw… That dog didn’t know us, we’d only met her like an hour before so it was really incredible how she decided to trust and show us where they were.”
Now that all have been rescued, the Greyhound, which has been named Vera, is recovering at the veterinarian’s clinic with her puppies. Once they’re ready for adoption, Ibizan Hound Rescue will help each animal find a loving and furrever home.

A new adventure…ended very well!
On saturday Lianne a friend of mine found an injured and undernourished greyhound on Vera market. After giving her first treatments and stabilising her broken leg we took her back to where she was found because we saw she was producing milk so somewhere she had puppies (or somebody took them away as it so often happens over here). We chose to watch what she would do so we followed her for over 3km, ended up somewhere in the Campo in Vera, into a derelict house and there in that car, we made a big Discovery ! 10 little lives waiting for their mum…????
